At Made From RI We Sell Candles But We Export Hope

Candles and their flames have had so much meaning foisted upon them. Perhaps rightfully so. Think of how a perfectly dark room is brightened by the illuminating flame of a single candle. The meaning of candles becomes more apparent to us in the Fall. The sun does not last as long in the day - yet with a sweatshirt we still want to be on the deck or patio, perhaps snuggling or holding hands with a loved one. The contained candle (and we have many of these at Made From RI) is the solution.
The glow of the candle often converges with something we all need more of. That is Hope. Hope being the motto of the State of Rhode Island. Hope is also one of the core values of Made From RI as a family business.
You see, Made From RI is also a successor of many family businesses that were built on this uniquely Rhode Island precept. While I write these blogs (among other things), the beauty a brains of Made From RI, my wife Jennifer, is not often seen here.
Jennifer had a grandfather who applied this concept of Hope day to day. There is a street named after him in East Providence, Rhode Island. He was the type of gent who built homes and held mortgages on those homes during the Great Depression. In those days, it was the responsibility of the mortgage holder to collect the mortgage. This being the Great Depression, some people did not always have the money or all of the money (there was also the need to eat and clothe the family). Do you know what he would do? His response was to say, "Pay me what you can when you can." He did not foreclose. He did not send a notice of delinquency. He had the Hope that these people would come out of things one day.
My own grandfather was a Providence based artist. He was fortunate to have a job that paid well (again during and after the Great Depression). He took that money and invested it in people, helping to build a college that started in Rhode Island and is now celebrating its 100th anniversary in nearby Massachusetts this weekend (10/18/2019). He had Hope in young people and in the future.
Made From RI stands on their shoulders. As a result, we put Rhode Island's anchor, the Hope anchor, in our logo.
So, do would we like it if you went to MadeFromRI.com and purchased a Rhode Island made candle? Of course, that is why we are in business. But it is also our desire that as you light the candle (or candles), be you a Rhode Island customer or in the reaches of Arizona or Alaska, that you look to the flame illuminating the darkness and experience another Rhode Island commodity and export: Hope.
