Made From RI - A Christmas Card, An Artist, And A President

Made From RI and Made From RI Gallery have an origin. That origin has to do with generations of forebears who have been involved in various arts and business. However, while many have written, this one has to do with a Christmas Card, an artist, and a President.
In 1960, Adolph Wahl, born in Switzerland and having emigrated to the US in 1900, had recently retired from 52 years at Providence Lithograph Co. where he had been in charge of Art and Photography. He loved the work so much that he started his own studio in a ranch style house on Warwick Neck, Warwick, Rhode Island. Among his specialties was Calligraphy and the ancient art of Engrossing. It was here that George V. Higgins of the Providence Journal concluded an interview with Adolph in saying, "But it’s still a shock to see no Gothic spires outside the 20th century aluminum windows."
In late 1960, Adolph Wahl, Grandpa, was creating Christmas Cards for for friends and family throughout the world. He decided to create a greeting for the sitting President of the United States (a tradition he started here and continued until his passing in 1987). His creation is seen below and was the "Document of the Month" displayed by the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum on December 21, 2018.
