Made From RI Answers: What Happened In 1920?

What happened in 1920?
In 1918, a young lady from Central Falls, Rhode Island, the daughter of Dutch immigrants, was working in a then well known confectioner's kitchen in downtown Providence. She happened upon a group that had formed earlier, a "Christian Women's Club" and started going to after hours meetings in the kitchen.
Part of what these women discussed was the desire for the ability to vote in general elections. They did more than talk... they also handed out flyers and pamphlets and lobbied local leaders (one of whom was this young lady's older brother). In 1920, 100 years ago, the work of these women was realized and the Women's Right to Vote was passed.
The young lady in question was Fannie Devries (later Fannie Wahl)... my grandmother.
The Women's Right to Vote Keepsake Ornament beautifully honors this 1920 event that my grandmother and many of your grandparents (and perhaps great-grandparents) worked for. Like Fannie's story, it is personal, family, cultural, and societal history. We proudly make the Women's Right to Vote Keepsake Ornament available for purchase at Made From RI here: https://madefromri.com/ornaments/womens-right-to-vote-keepsake-ornament/
