Made From RI on Memorial Day 2020

Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday, commemorating those who have died in military service to their country. It is observed annually on the last Monday of May. May 25, 2020 might be the most unusual Memorial Day in quite some time, but we take time to honor those who have gone before their time in service to the United States.
Normally, it is traditional for "Taps" to be played at Memorial Day ceremonies. I have always had a problem holding back tears, even in uniform and at attention, right hand held smartly at salute, as the bugle plays. A. Horace Lorenzo Trim wrote lyrics to "Taps" that are equally as moving:
"Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lake, from the hills, from the sky;
All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.
Fading light, dims the sight,
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright.
From afar, drawing nigh, falls the night.
Thanks and praise, for our days,
'Neath the sun, 'neath the stars, neath the sky;
As we go, this we know, God is nigh.
Sun has set, shadows come,
Time has fled, Scouts must go to their beds
Always true to the promise that they made.
While the light fades from sight,
And the stars gleaming rays softly send,
To thy hands we our souls, Lord, commend."
They never came back. Their silence lives on.
