Originally noted as the "Scott Tattoo", "Taps" has been played on every American battlefield from the Civil War to the present. It is the official tune marking a soldier's or sailors' death, military funerals, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and on Memorial Day.

The tune is soulful. The unofficial words noted above are moving.

To those who have paid the ultimate price for their fellow citizens and those oppressed, we honor you in the only way we can. It's not enough and never will be, but we think of you now.
