Summer Sailing Off Beavertail Lighthouse

Summer Sailing Off Beavertail Lighthouse

While summer on Narragansett Bay and the surrounding area is the best time to sail, it is not always ideal. In fact, it can be downright unpredictable from hour to hour, let alone day to day.

Fog rolls in and burns off. The wind shifts before the tide and chops kicks up. Haze blows in from the southwest. Rollers come in from the east. The wind backs around to the northwest and a thunderstorm is on you. Or the sun shines and you are running off the wind, sails billowing, having the time of your life.

Which is why this coaster, "Continued Foggy Summer Sailing" is one of my personal favorites. Shot off of Beavertail Point, there is a fog as the wind blows south-southwest. The fog will burn off, but the wind keeps it there in the morning. It's all about sailing on the bay, and accepting the conditions that are there. The weather will change. But everyone there, onshore and offshore, are having the time of their lives.
