The Native Quahog Tile Trivet and Interesting Quahog Facts

Glinting Sunlight On A Quahog Shell

A nice hot steaming pot of clam chowder ready to ladle out. It's a staple of the Rhode Island diet and a primary export to the rest of the world.

Where do we place that container of wonder as we dish it out? On a Native Quahog Tile Trivet, of course. The trivet is of Marble Tile, so it can take the heat. The whole back of the trivet is cork, so it protects your dining room table, outdoor table, or counter. The printed picture is that of a quahog, so it has aesthetic appeal.

When the meal is over, wipe down the Native Quahog Tile Trivet and display it on a shelf. Let it be the reminder of the meal, a thought of meals to come, and a naturalistic rendering of the origin of the meal.

Interesting Quahog Facts: The Quahog, (Mercenaria mercenaria,) has been Rhode Island's official state shell since June 30,1987. The word Quahog comes from the indigenous Narragansett name: poquauhock. The Quahog's species name, Mercenaria mercenaria, is derived from a Latin word meaning "wages."
