Plum Beach Lighthouse: A Survival Story

Plum Beach Lighthouse: A Survival Story

"You can buy the lighthouse for a dollar, but you have to move it..." joked the First Mate of the M/V Bay Queen passing Plum Beach Light in the early 1980's. He was speaking of the abandoned, rust covered lighthouse. I know. I was there.

The original Jamestown Bridge that loomed over the lighthouse is now gone. The vessel known as the "Bay Queen" is now gone. Plum Beach Light remains. Moreover, it's refurbished with care.

The keeping of Plum Beach Lighthouse is a love story of the people of Narragansett Bay. It is a story of resiliency. You can read the story here: HISTORY – Plum Beach Lighthouse

Years later, passing the lighthouse in a boat, I was able to see my old friend again. Pressing my thighs against the gunwale of the boat for stability, I was able to take this photo. Now, you can have the lighthouse and take it home. We have made it available here as a marble tile coasterCoasters - Plum Beach Lighthouse - Made From RI
