We Got an Order Today

We got an order today. Which means, now, the work begins.

The order: a webbed dog leash - single handle, 1" nylon - and a matching collar, same webbing, specific color. Both built in our workshop here at Made From RI.

Now, I want to walk you through what “Made From RI” actually means, because it’s not a slogan. It’s more than a brand or a business name. We’re not walking into a warehouse to pull a SKU off a shelf that got made somewhere else and shipped in a container. We’re walking through our own stock, nylon webbing, hardware, nylon clips, to pull the right materials for this job, this order, this dog.

That’s the “Heritage” part. Here’s the “Craftsmanship” part.

My wife Jen takes those materials to her sewing machine. Not just any sewing machine, this one belonged to her mother, who had a degree in Home Economics with a specialty in tailoring. The person who spent decades making things for the house and costumes for theater groups. That’s what Jen learned from.

Jen takes raw nylon webbing, nylon hardware, and chrome steel, and turns it into a leash and a collar. We tested everything on our own family’s pets first, so we know that it works (and is still working years later). Sit with that for a second: we’re making something for your dog that we’ve already put on ours. That’s not a marketing line. That’s just how you’d do it if you meant it.

When it’s done, we box it up, and this is where people usually stop paying attention, so let me slow down. We schedule carrier pickup according to conditions, weather and product, on purpose, so the package doesn’t sit around baking in a hot warehouse or getting rained on before it ever reaches a truck. Nobody drops this in a box and walks away. Somebody decides how, and when, and from where.

And when it ships, we don’t think of it as a sale. We think of it as: thanks for letting us make something for you. Thanks for trusting us with your best friend.

That’s the whole job, really. That’s what we do at Made From RI.
