Beauty And Function: Made From RI Photo Coasters

Posted by Keith R Wahl, Made From RI on Feb 3rd 2021

We recently talked about how the Made From RI Photo Coasters originated. You can read this in the Made From RI Blog here: Made From RI Photo Coasters: An Origin Story.

Now why coasters? Because we value our furniture and yours. Coasters first appeared around the year 1760. They were pieces of papier-mâché or silver placed under decanted wine bottles. These items we slid around the table ("coasted") while protecting the furniture.

As time went on, coasters also took on advertising and decorative functions. This first appeared in 1880 in a beer hall in Dresden, Germany.

So, in summary, Made From RI Photo Coasters fulfill two originating functions:
  • Protect your furniture
  • Provide beauty to your table.
The photo and the heft of the marble tile material provide the aesthetic. The cork backing on the Made From RI Photo Coasters provides the protection. The rest is up to you. (See more photos at our Made From RI Gallery ... we can customize coasters for you as well).
